Your Guide To Cat Allergy Symptoms

My sister recently lost her cat Topaz. She had been a long time member of our extended family. As much as my kids loved her they experienced cat allergy symptoms whenever they went to visit their aunt. Both my children have mild asthma which typically means they are going to be allergic to cats. My sister actually has asthma herself but she loved Topaz enough to manage through her cat allergy symptoms.

You don’t necessarily need to see an allergist to determine whether you are allergic to cats. The allergic reaction is usually immediate upon entering a room with a cat or cats. So it doesn’t take much to put the dots together. Can you get rid of your cat allergy symptoms without getting rid of your feline friend? First we need to identify your symptoms.

Common Cat Allergy Symptoms

*Uncontrollable Sneezing
*Watery Eyes
*Wheezing
*Hives
*Eczema

An allergy to cats is caused by contact with the dander and the saliva that are in the air. They may also be on surfaces where you sit or sleep or even in the carpets around your house. Cats lick their fur when they are cleaning themselves and when that happens they deposit a protein on their fur that is the actual allergen. Cat allergy symptoms can be experienced in areas where you might not expect. Due to the nature of the allergen it can stick to clothes and hands and can therefore appear in the office or other places where cats are not allowed.

You can attempt to treat your symptoms with medications but for cat allergies it is best to consult with a doctor. Antihistamine medications and allergy eye drops may help. If your cat allergy symptoms can not be managed it may be time to consider giving your cat away. This is a last option but may be your only resort particularly if anyone in the family suffers from asthma. Their symptoms, like wheezing, are more serious and therefore be the bigger priority.

If your cat allergy symptoms are mild or moderate and you can’t imagine finding a new home for your feline family member here are some tips that may minimize your allergic reactions.

1. Get an air purifier with a HEPA filter
2. Keep your cat out of your bedroom where you spend the most time
3. Try to contain your cat to certain areas of the house
4. Vacuum your carpets with HEPA Vacuum Cleaner at least 2 times a week
5. Wash your hands after touching your cat

Cat allergy symptoms can come between you and your cat but if you really care about him you can do everything possible to manage your symptoms. Please keep in mind that new treatments are always being researched and keeping up to date on these may help you find the ultimate cure.

How did you know your baby had a casein/dairy protein/soy protein allergy? What are the symptoms?
I have had a screaming baby since she was 10 days old and she is 9 weeks old today. She has green watery stools and recently blood in her stools also (they were just specks before).

I am exclusively breastfeeding and hardly eat dairy - just in my two cups of tea a day and the milk solids you find in bread and margarine (and I guess the other processed foods an average person would eat so hardly a milkshake a day girl).

I have a pediatrician’s appointment in two days (the waiting list was very long) and General Practioners have no clue.

Someone please guide me as I’ve hit rock bottom.

Exclude a common allergenic type of food from your diet and wait to see if the baby shows positive changes. If there’s no change, she’s probably not allergic to the item you excluded. Continue this process until you figure it out or until the doctor figures it out.

I’m sorry that my child didn’t have a milk / soy / dairy allergy, but she was lactose intolerant.

She screamed and screamed and screamed. She had constipation one day, the runs the next. Some days she would be ok… sometimes she wouldn’t.

Finally at about 2 months I couldn’t take it anymore and took her to the ER. (After about 7 doctors appts)

The ER doctor listened to her Belly and concluded she was lactose intolerant and put her on lactose free formula. NOT SOY!

It worked. She is still intolerant but can handle small quantities of Milk.

    Hope I helped a little…

If there is blood in the stool then she has an allergy. That is what they will look for when they take a stool sample. You may have to cut out all of the dairy if she is allergic and you want to keep nursing.

I don’t think it’s anything that you are eating. Another mom said she might just be sensitive to lactose. I agree. I nursed both my boys and even though they didn’t scream they would eat and then puck up about 90 percent of what they had eaten. I had to get a doctors note so wic would provide the nestle good start with the genle ease. They were just having an issue with digestion.
I wouldn’t wait until next week I would take her tonight. What’s the worst they can say? There’s nothing wrong? Then you just keep your appointment. But there might be a possibility that they will find out exactly whats wrong.

    Good Luck!

I have a lactose intolerant eight month old boy.He also kept screaming and constantly wanting feeds(because i breast fed it felt like i was constantly sitting down and feeding him) and he also had a yellow/green diarrhoea to the point i was constantly changing his clothes.I went to the doctor and he said that because i was breast feeding he would highly doubt that he was lactose intolerant. My partner knew the symptoms and demanded a test done and it come back positive and now he is on lactose free formula and very happy and settled. If your not happy with your doctors responses, demand the test that you want….you would be very surprised.Good luck.

Some babies just cry a lot when they are very small my youngest (10mth old) has always been a difficult baby and still is. She cried all of the time during the first 3mths and even now she needs constant attention or she cries.
Your babies stool should be green and fairly runny and the blood maybe from little tears they get from around there bottom. Dairy; protein and soy allergies are fairly rarer and the most common sign would be your baby is not gaining weight and even losing weight. At 9 weeks your babies digestive track is still very immature so it is common for them to be unsettled after feeding. Most babies do settle down after 12 weeks and so does a great deal of the crying.

Severe constipation is a good sign. If bubby has runny green stools then that is a sign of constipation - She is just so blocked up that only the watery stuff can get out when she strains. If she has blood in her stool to then she is probably very constipated. Can you get her to the doctor tomorrow? Does she strain alot and is in pain when she trys to pooh?
I would get hersome Coloxyl drops from the chemist (NOt sure if she is old enough but just ask them) It may make poohing a little easier for her.

Poor little darling… I hope she doesnt have it…

My cousine was just diagnosed with it and he is 7 years old. No dairy at all - not even chocolate.

He had to wear a little patch that tested his skin over a few days and that was all the testing he had done…

Well the common symptoms of that is projectile vomiting, not being able to keep anything down, little to no weight gain and alot of fussiness. My son had GERD and with the right formula he was good as new lol.
