What are good type of allergy medicines that work well?

March 29th, 2010 -- Posted in Allergy | 1 Comment »

I’ve tried Claritin, Zyrtec, Singulair, and Xyzal. None of them worked except Xyzal, but apparently my medical coverage doesn’t cover xyzal. Is there any other type of allergy medicines that are as well as xyzal?

Anyone know what allergy medicine Medi-Cal covers?

Zyrtec is a medication that consists of two molecules. It turns out that only one isomer (configuration of the same molecule) is active in blocking histamine (the chemical that causes bad allergy symptoms). They purified that isomer and concentrated it then marketed it as Xyzal.

Before I recommend anything, please check with your doctor before taking any medications or changing medications.

If Xyzal really worked for you, just try doubling your dose of Zyrtec.
If you want an alternative suggestion - allegra works well for some.

Why when I have an asthma attack albuterol does not work but coughing deep to where I vibrate my lungs helps?

March 29th, 2010 -- Posted in Asthma | 3 Comments »

Whenever I have an asthma attack albuterol does not work. The only thing that works is coughing really hard until my lungs vibrate really hard and then my asthma goes away. Why is this?
how would flomax work?
I am on advair. albuterol. and xolair twice a month.

You need a pulmonary function test. If a bronchodilator works. Maybe you have copd and not asthma.

What insurance helps to cover allergy shots or surgery for allergy related problems?

March 22nd, 2010 -- Posted in Allergy | 4 Comments »

I want to get insurance that will help cover the cost of allergy related surgeries or for covering some costs on allergy shots. Can anyone recommend a great insurance company that helped similar allergy problem people. I am not rich but need insurance worth getting. Any help would be appreciated. I live in nashville Tn. Thanks

Well actually, there are a lot of insurance companies that can do the thing for you.
And the difference between their rates depends on the service or the scope of coverage for you.
If you want an insurance company that can cover those medications for you,
you can check this site and look under the health insurance tab.

Insurance companies changed rates over time so you can have the most accurate
price for health insurance by calling them directly.
But sure, this’ worth to see.

Hope this one helps!

Why does allergy medicine say consult a doctor before use if you have thyroid disease?

March 15th, 2010 -- Posted in Allergy | 2 Comments »

I’ve been looking at allergy medications and most of them say consult a doctor before use if you have thyroid disease. I left a message with my doctor, but what would be the side-effects of someone taking allergy medicine if they had thyroid disease?

The otc medications can affect your heart rate, blood pressure, etc things that are already being controlled by another medication. My doctor told me DO NOT take it, but I also had thyroid cancer. They did however prescribe me Singular. If you are having serious issues with your allergies i suggest you also speak to your doctor about an allergy prescription

What are the types of and symptoms of asthma?

March 15th, 2010 -- Posted in Asthma | 2 Comments »

What are the different types of asthma (sports, bronchial, etc) and what are the symptoms/treatment of each?

Signs and symptoms are different for everyone however they are the same for the one person who has asthma. In other words, one person may cough uncontrollably with their asthma attack. That cough would happen with a sports induced attack or a cold air induced attack. It should be the same.

Someone else may wheeze with their asthma attacks to the same triggers.

The key to managing asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them as much as possible. If you are unable to avoid your triggers you will need medication to help. Controller medications are taken everyday and help prevent attacks. These medications include Singulair, inhaled steroids and oral steroids.

Rescue medications are use to reverse an attack. the two most common rescue medication are albuterol (provental or ventelin) or Xopenex.

How to treat asthma and how to prevent allrgic asthma attacks?

March 8th, 2010 -- Posted in Asthma | 5 Comments »

I have always been sensitive to air pollution, smoke, dust, pollen and other things that trigger asthma. How can I help myselfwith asthma attacks?

Do not smoke or allow smoking in your home - Babies exposed to tobacco smoke are more likely to get asthma. If a woman is exposed to tobacco smoke during pregnancy, her baby may also be more likely to get asthma.

If animal dander is a problem for you, keep your pet out of the house or at least out of your bedroom, or find it a new home.

If pollen is a problem for you, if possible, stay indoors with the air conditioner on, when the pollen count is high. Do not run the air-conditioning, whether in car or indoors, on the setting that draws in outside air and cools it. Outside air brings with it pollen, and cool, pollinated air is bad for asthma.

To control dust mites, wash your sheets, blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys once a week in hot water. You can get special dust proof covers for your mattress and pillows.

If cold air bothers you, wear a scarf over your mouth and nose in the winter.

There are a number of highly effective herbal and homeopathic remedies that may be used for the successful treatment of asthma and other respiratory conditions. Depending on the severity of the asthma, natural remedies can either reduce or completely eliminate the need for the synthetic drugs and are often used in conjunction with conventional medications as a part of a holistic treatment plan.

Herbal ingredients such as Matricaria recutita and Astralagus are known for their antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, while homeopathic ingredients such as Mag. Phos. and Nat. Sulph are successful at easing chest and throat constriction and soothing mucous membranes while reducing the presence of phlegm in the chest. Used regularly, natural remedies can help improve respiratory health, reduce the incidence and severity of asthma attacks while strengthening the immune system.

How do you know the difference between mountain cedar allergy symptoms and those of the common cold?

March 1st, 2010 -- Posted in Allergy | 1 Comment »

My sister lives in San Antonio, and the allergy count is really high. She has stuffy nose, red eyes, sore throat, and no fever. Is it safe to assume that she just has allergies, or is it a cold?

Yep, that’s almost assuredly "Cedar Fever". The easiest way to tell is if a lot of other people are complaining of similiar symptoms (which right now they certainly are, myself included.) Of course, there’s always a chance that it’s a cold, but if her eyes are red because they’re itchy, then that’s most likely alergies.

What are good cardio workouts for people with asthma?

March 1st, 2010 -- Posted in Asthma | 5 Comments »

Allergy season is coming and my asthma will be aggravated, especially when running. Any suggestions on good cardio that I can sustain and keep up my exercise routine much appreciated. FYI: I use Advair.

Work into things slowly by building up your lungs and body. You can do any workout, but I would definetly reccommend starting with walking or swimming and getting into higher impact cardio after more training.

Also, tell your doctor what you are doing, and he/she may prescribe an inhaler (albuterol) to alleviate your problems.
